Inul after a lizzard

I saw Inul jumping suddenly onto a tree trunk this morning. She's indeed fast to catch a butterfly or in this instance a jungle lizard. Then she jumped down and zoomed into the house with the catch in between her teeth. For almost an hour she was busy playing with the lizard on the rattan mat. I am more the gentle girl type of cat. Therefore, I just watched her play.

It's Gawai Season in Bintulu

This afternoon my foster parents went to Bintulu town shopping. Their attention were caught by this group on bantings in front on the supermarket at Medan Jaya. These bantings hail the coming of an annual festivity for the Ibans and other natives peoples of Sarawak. Come 1st of June , and it's gonna be a public holiday to celebrate this Gawai Dayak . Now I am not sure whether I'd be celebrating it in Bintulu or Kuching this time around.... as you know that's very much my boss's decision.

Who wipes?

Einstein and Inul had a good time showing me how to use a toilet roll. Hanging on to the toilet shreds , they meowed to the tune of " Who wipes? " and " I can't stop loving you". Hey guys this will not go unreported!

Hard landscaping

Here's the concrete step where I used to rush over everytime my foster parent released me from the house to catch butterflies at the the jungle nearby. He has decided to create a small space by the steps and apply concrete over it. It would be provided with a garden furniture like a table and chair plus an umbrella. It would provide a convenient area for reading, writing or sketching, if not painting under shade a a view of the jungle close by. The above picture was taken on the 12 of May.

Today, 15th of May I got the first look at the completed hard landscape. I noticed that my foster parent felt rather tired this morning after finishing this project all by himself. Hmm....he's still energy!

Starring Me

Ok, I like to look at people straight at their eyes. My foster parents used to say that I have the most beautiful pair of cats eyes ( Smile). Today I am past seven months old. My , my,...they say my body is soft to hold,my furs don't fall that easily and I am the more reclusive type. That makes me wonder...was my genes derived from the real jungle cat, probably the famous civet cat of Sarawak.

Little sister Inul is three and half months old

Inul is today about three and the half months old. While she is a Bintuluian, I am Kucingnite. I find Inul now very playful. Runs and jumps over brother Einstein, like ...well real cats.

Miri sidewalks

Before taking the journey home back to Bintulu, my foster parents dropped by at Miri's Sunday market shopping arena. There were fishes displayed by the sidewalks!...hmmm, but couldn't get my paws on them.
More onlookers and potential buyers having a look and more look at the fishes. A group of river prawns ( udang galah) were displayed as well to the left of the picture. They were fetching prices right through the ceiling i.e. RM 30 per kilo, however their sizes were large.

Curtin Alumni Dinner

The trip to Miri was to attend this Curtin Alumni Dinner, held at Eastwood Valley Golf and Country Club.

On 10 May, my foster parents took to the road again. This time the land journey took approximately three hours by the old winding highway. Before arriving at Batu Niah ( half-way through the journey) their pickup had a punctured tyre . They were held up for about forty five minutes to change to a spare tyre with the help of one good Samaritan.

There were plenty of food around, served buffet style. The band playing on stage was no other than Curtin's own music club.

This is the entrance to the venue of the Curtin Alumni Dinner held in Miri.

Friday Prayers

On Friday my foster parent had a self-proclaimed holiday. The special ocassion was to attend his Friday prayers at the Bintulu's divisional mosque named 'masjid assyakirin'. 'Assyakirin' is an Arabic word to mean 'being grateful'.

Loading oil palm trees

I still can't understand how my foster parents say work is fun. This pickup can carry 30 nos of oil palm trees . Here we are busy loading them.

Einstein is more than three months today!

Little brother Einstein, sometimes referred to as 'Little Hitler' by my foster parents, is more than three months old today. Here he is relaxing on top of the filing cabinet. Looking good, his 'white gloved 'hands and feet are very conspicuous now. His moustache is particularly attractive. Extremely agile. Likes to jump and run over anything. Likes to wrestle with little sister 'Inul'. Will have picture of them together soon.

Inspecting the ol palm fruits

Here's me at a fruiting oil palm tree. This month more oil palm trees are flowering and starting to bear fruits. The hot weather must have provided stress to induce the system to flower. Good news for my foster parents. Heard that prices of FFB ( that means fresh fruit bunches) are good now, averaging RM65o per ton for average fruits. Meaning to say that those fruits classified as Grade A can even fetch RM 740 per ton.

Just around the "Tamu"

Well this is one shot they showed me. Dried fishes spread on a canvas sheet are left to dry in the hot, steamy and scorching sun.

This is a picture of the "Twin Tamu" from across the Kampung Jepak fising vllage. Yesterday my foster parents went out , guess what? yah, shopping again!.Will show you the things that they see just around the tamu.

Landscape harvest

Just around the oil palm tree are landscape plants that were purposely planted as advance growing plants. When these plants are in the way of future growth of the oil palm, they are ready to be harvested. While interim inter-cropping can be in many forms, this landscape intercrop is well suited to my foster parents landscaping business.
Here, is a collection of heliconia plants which has been dug out. In the background are other landscape plants that could be harvested as and when required. They are the coconut tree and a fragipani plant.

What RM 2 can buy you in Bintulu now?

Yesterday my foster parents went to town and had a go at coconut water and flesh. The vendor prepared an organic spoon out of the coconut fruit thick skin to help scoop the flesh. Wow, such marvellous soft and sweet taste. And the coconut water is just so, so fresh!

Multi-coloured snake

Came across a tiny snake today at our eco-farm. Its so interesting to look at due to its multi-coloured skin. I will be writing more on the happenings around the farm during this 7th visit to Bintulu. Here it is seen wriggling on a jasmine plant, which has flagrant white flowers.
